Funding Choices
Donors can either make a general gift to the Foundation or establish
a Named Fund. The threshold requirement to establish a fund is $10,000.
There
are four types of funds:
- Community Fund: This fund is the heart of the Foundation.
Built by both small and large donations, it is designed to have maximum
flexibility in order to respond to changing community needs. All undesignated
contributions are added to this fund.
- Named Fund: Donors can choose to make a large donation
and establish a new fund named for its donor, as a memorial to a loved
one, or a field of interest. The BICF will make grants from the fund
in accordance with the donor’s wishes. The Bowen Island Community Foundation is proud to administer Named Funds for the Bowen Island Golf Club Junior Scholarship Fund, the Community Hall and Arts Centre (CHAC) Operating Endowment Fund, Maggie Cumming Legacy Fund and the Aaron Sluggett Memorial Scholarship Fund.
- Flow Through Funds: In some circumstances, donors prefer to direct their charitable giving on an annual basis. For example, for the past 3 years, the Foundation has assisted with the Danielle Dulong Memorial Scholarship Flow Through Fund.
- Operating Fund: This helps to pay for the operations
of the Foundation, thus keeping administrative fees low and maximizing
available charitable dollars. Donors to the Operating Fund are designated
as Community Sponsors of the Foundation.
